Dear Barney,

We spoke a couple of weeks ago regarding engaging with NI veterans regarding the Government's proposals for a statute of limitations and a variety of other associated proposals.  I was hoping to have received some questions that I could forward to you, but I think summer leave has got in the way of those.  Therefore, here is a link to the Command Paper(https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/1002140/CP_498_Addressing_the_Legacy_of_Northern_Ireland_s_Past.pdf) which sets out the proposal in some detail and I would ask that you pass this to the network of Regimental Associations for their views on it and, where appropriate, what they would prefer the solution to be or areas where they feel it needs to be strengthened or areas it has missed.

I will be very happy to meet (virtually or face to face) with a group or groups to discuss it further should you think that would be helpful.

I am not in any way here to 'sell' the proposal but simply to understand veterans' thoughts on it and feed those back to the NIO.

It would be great to have their views by Mon 6 Sep

As ever, I'd be very happy to discuss further.

Best Wishes,

D
