Dear All,

Supporting Wounded Veterans (SWV) is a charity based in London but with a national reach. We work closely with veterans from all the armed services and support those of you who are struggling with various problems be it mental or physical. SWV supports medically discharged veterans of the Armed Forces through rehabilitation to employment.  We have a number of pillars to the organisation and we would ask you to read our web site www.supportingwoundedveterans.com.

There you can also read about the Trial on the use of Psychedelic Drugs on PTSD we have undertaken with Kings College London. This ground-breaking study, funded by SWV and using a successful trials protocol from the US, attempts to find solutions for those suffering from the condition and if you have any colleagues with PTSD please pass on our contacts to them as they may wish to be included in the Trial.

A route into the charity is through sporthabilitation which is either a Ski or Ocean challenge in which we aim to give veterans an intense week of activity in a sport that is possible for anyone of any ability to take part in.  Wheelchair users, amputees and those with other physical and mental injuries, including PTSD, can all compete at the same level.  These competitive weeks brings veterans back together in teams and kick starts their recovery.

A couple of quotes from our 2018 Ocean Challengers:

"I never slept more than three hours in the last 20 years and while I was on the boat with the team I was able to get six hours sleep every time. I felt safe for the first time in a very long time."

"It was an amazing week in what it has done for my self esteem and willingness to try some new things again that I never believed I could do anymore. I find myself not really able to do normal sports due to my disability and it's given me the opportunity to be competitive again."

The purpose of this letter is to ensure that you are aware of SWV and if you would like to talk with us please contact me [email protected] or call me on 07990 552718. Alternatively, you can [email protected]

As a charity we want to ensure that we are reaching those former colleagues who really need help or be in contact “with veterans who know other veterans” who may need our help. You may not need us now, but we want you to know we are here for the future should you need us and please pass on to any of your colleagues who you feel could benefit from our support.

Thank you for your time reading this.

Best regards

Martin
